Sweeter than a Cannoli
Dear Steve & Evelyn,
It's closing in on midnight here in NYC. Exhausted and exhilarated at the same time. What a night! How much were you two praying for this mission anyway?? The Lord blessed us with SO much help!
Fr. Daniel Ray made sure the altar at the Basilica was more filled with Beauty than we'd ever seen it, with candles galore, and the doors wide open to the streets bringing lots of passersby in to be in His Presence on the altar.
The two Dominican priests reported there were "a LOT of big fish" in the Confessionals tonight. They both said they'd happily come back.
The missionaries reported life-changing conversations with souls on the street. So many people thanked us for engaging them.
I got more hugs from passersby and visitors than I'd ever experienced on a mission. Two of them were from two unbaptized young men, and one from a fallen-away Catholic who was grateful to feel welcomed.
I never did get that cannoli. But the sweetness of this mission more than made up for it.
